ICC World Cup 2017: India loses to England for 9 runs

In what was an exciting head-to-head match in the World Cup final, Indian women’s team lost to a gritty England on Sunday, July 23, 2017, at Lord's. This is the second time that India has ended up being the runners in the ICC World Cup.

What did India in was the lower order. India was on a winning course at 191 for three in 42.5 overs. However, India lost seven wickets for 28 runs in 6.5 overs. Veda Krishnamurthy (35 off 34 balls), Sushma Verma’s (0) and Jhulan Goswami (0) were dismissed in the space of nine balls.

But the Indian team has emerged as a force to reckon with. They defeated the defending champions Australia to reach the finals and lost by only nine runs.

The resilience and determination of the team to win made everyone sit up and take notice of a game that, even at the starting of the tournament, had very few supporters.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi wished each player individually on Twitter and praised them for their performance.
